Jawa Perak BS6 – Pros and Cons
The Jawa Perak BS6 is a single-seater cruiser from Jawa. The main strong point of the bike was mean to be its distinctive design. Jawa bikes are known to be good cruisers on the road. The company has also been doing very well in terms of its sales and has built a good brand image in the country. We take a look at the latest offering from the company. With a bold move to introduce a single-seater bike in the market, we felt the need to bring clarity about the pros and cons of this bike. Lets first begins with the pros.
Jawa Perak BS6 pros
Design
This is the biggest advantage or a strong point of the bike. It gets a very distinctive design. The bike can be spotted from afar as it does not look like any regular bike out there. The design of the bike could be the main reason for many of the people who actually purchase it. Even the paint is finished in matte black which gives it an attractive look. The seat also gets a unique design.
Seat ride height
The seat is positioned very low on the bike. This helps in adding to the character of the bike. Also, this will be an added comfort for short people. Therefore this could be an added advantage for our market. The bike also has a low center of gravity and this will keep the bike planted even while doing high speeds in crosswinds.
Jawa Perak engine
The engine is also another strong point of the bike. It is powered by a 334 cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine. This motor delivers 30 bhp and 31 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. This makes it the most powerful Jawa sold in our market. The engine is slightly powerful than the engine Offred on the other two Jawa bike introduced in the country.
Most affordable bobber in India
Not only is the Perak the most affordable bobber in India, but it’s also got that title in the bag by a huge margin. The Perak is priced at Rs 1,94,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Since it comes with a true bobber design the only other bikes in the segment cost upwards of Rs 10 lakh such as the Triumph Bonneville bobber.
Jawa Perak BS6 cons
Seat comfort
While the design of the seat itself is sure to attract many, it does prove to be very comfortable. The cushioning of the seat is a bit hard and does not provide good comfort. This could be an issue during long rides. You also do not get any back support. Also being a single-seat there isn’t much space to move around. That might leave you crammed up after a long day in the saddle.
Practicality
The Jawa Perak was not built by keeping practicality in mind. It only comes in a single-seater form and while that may seem stylish it could be a let down to many. It is a big feature to lose out on as well. There is also no option of adding foot-pegs at the back as well so that you can add an aftermarket pillion seat. Almost all the bike in India below 3 lakh have a pillion seat, may it be small but they do have a seat. So the bike not getting high sales might be obvious with the single-seat design.
Jawa Perak spoke wheels
Giving the Jawa Perak the classic look are those spoked wheels. They might be good for the looks but the bike suffers practicality on that side. With low ground clearance, you are not going to push the bike on off-road trails. The highway will be the bikes best friend so an offering of polished-looking alloy wheels would not have hurt. It also allows having tubeless tyres as opposed to the current tubed tyres which require tools to get fixed.
